What’s Christianity?

Christianity is a religion based upon the teachings and miracles of Jesus.  Jesus is the Christ.  The word “christ” means anointed one.  Christ is not Jesus’ last name.  Jesus is the anointed one from God the Father who came to this world, fulfilled the Old Testament laws and prophecies, died on the cross, and rose from the dead physically.  He performed many miracles which were recorded in the Gospels by the eyewitnesses.  He is divine in nature as well as human.  Thus, He has two natures and is worthy of worship and prayer.

Christianity teaches that there is only one God in all existence, that God made the universe, the Earth, and created Adam and Eve.  God created man in His image.  This does not mean that God has a body of flesh and bones.  Image means the likeness of God’s character, rationality, etc.  Because we are made in the image of God, every person is worthy of respect and honor.  Furthermore, this means that we did not evolve through random processes from a single-celled organism into rational, emotional beings.

God created Adam and Eve and put them in the Garden of Eden and gave them the freedom to choose between right and wrong.  They chose to sin. Sin is doing that which is contrary to the nature and will of God.  For example, God cannot lie; therefore, lying is sin.  The sin of disobeying God that Adam and Eve committed resulted in them being expelled from the Garden of Eden as well as suffering the effects of death.

As a result of their sin, their children and all of us inherited a sinful nature.  In other words, our offspring are not perfect in nature.  Think about it.  We don’t have to teach children to be selfish or how to lie.  They know how to do these things naturally.  This shows that we are born in a fallen state.

Christianity teaches that God is a Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, not three Gods), that Jesus Christ is the second person of the Trinity, that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead physically, and that all people are under the righteous judgment of God because all people have sinned against God.  It teaches that Jesus is the only way to be saved from the coming judgment of God and that salvation is received by faith in the work of Christ on the cross and not by anything that we can do to please God.

Where all other religions in the world teach that we must do some sort of good in cooperation with God in order to achieve the right to be in God’s presence, Christianity is the only religion that teaches salvation by grace.  This means that we are not made right before God by our efforts, sincerity, or works.  Instead, we are made right before God by faith in what Christ did on the cross.

Christianity further teaches that once a person is “born again” (becomes saved) that the Holy Spirit lives in that person and the person is changed:  “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come,” (2 Cor. 5:17).  This means that God actually lives in the person and the Christian then experiences a true and living relationship with God.

Therefore, “What is Christianity?” is best answered by saying that it is a relationship with the true and living God through the person of Jesus Christ by whom we are forgiven of our sins and escape the righteous judgment of God.

What’s Humidity

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity!” Have you ever heard someone say that on a warm, muggy day? As you’ll see soon, there’s a lot of truth in that statement.

To understand humidity, you first have to realize that there’s water in the air all around you. “But I’m not wet!” you might say. That’s true. Most of the air around you has water in the form of a gas called water vapor.

humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. Too much or too little humidity can be dangerous. For example, high humidity combined with hot temperatures is a combination that can be a health risk, especially for the very young and the very old.

humidity plays an important role in our daily weather. Without water vapor in the air, our weather might be like the weather on Mars. Could you imagine life without clouds, rain, snow, thunder or lightning?

When you hear weather forecasters talk about humidity, you may hear them talk about two different terms: absolute humidity and relative humidity. absolute humidity is the amount of water vapor divided by the amount of dry air in a certain volume of air at a particular temperature. The hotter the air is, the more water vapor it can hold.

relative humidity is the ratio of the current absolute humidity to the highest possible absolute humidity, which will depend upon the current air temperature. relative humidity is the term weather forecasters use most often.

A relative humidity of 100% means that the air can’t hold any more water vapor. It’s totally saturated. When this occurs, it can rain. In fact, the relative humidity must be 100% where clouds are forming for it to rain. However, at ground level where the rain lands, the relative humidity can be less than 100%.

So how does humidity affect us on a hot day? Humans are sensitive to changes in humidity, because our skin uses the air around us to get rid of moisture in the form of sweat. If the relative humidity is very high, the air is already saturated with water vapor and our sweat won’t evaporate. When this happens, we feel hotter than the actual temperature.

Likewise, very low humidity can make us feel cooler than the actual temperature. This happens because the dry air helps sweat evaporate more quickly than usual.

If the temperature outside is 75° F, humidity can make it feel warmer or cooler. A relative humidity of 0% would make it feel like it’s only 69° F. On the other hand, a relative humidity of 100% would make it feel like it’s 80° F.

So what’s a comfortable humidity level? Studies have shown that we tend to feel most comfortable at a relative humidity of around 45%. Some people use special machines called humidifiers (add humidity) or dehumidifiers (remove humidity) to keep indoor humidity at a comfortable level.

Spend some time watching local weather forecasts. You can watch them on television on the nightly news. Or, if you prefer, you can read them in a local paper or even find them online at a variety of weather information sites. Do you understand all the weather-related terms the forecasters use? If not, ask an adult to help you understand what any unfamiliar terms mean. Keep an eye on the weather the next day. How accurate was the forecast? You’ve probably felt how a hot day can feel even hotter when it’s really humid outside. Here’s a little experiment that will help you understand why. Soak a washcloth in a bowl of warm water. Wring out the water so that none drips out but the washcloth is still warm. Feel the warmth of the washcloth. Now wave the washcloth around in the air for a bit. When you’re finished, feel the washcloth again. Does it feel cooler? It should. As moisture evaporates, it carries heat with it. Know Your Self Confidence

Know

Self confidence is one important element anyone who want success in life should acquire. It begins basically from the perception you have about yourself . Being an insistent or lazy person has an enormous impact on how others see you ; there is a way you communicate the real feelings of life to them and they relate to you based on what you feel about yourself . Expectation always precedes acquisition . Perception , in a way , breed reality . There is a direct connection between what you experience in life with what you conceive . If you believe what you are thinking about yourself strongly , it would be a matter of time before others would queue behind to support
and follow you .

There is this story of a young school boy who made everyone see him as a wayward boy. He was named “ The CAPPON (Cult Leader) of the school ”he was fat with a mean, with ugly face.Funny enough , all through his school years, no one ever saw him fighting because he had taken his time to create a strong impression on the heart of others. He could crush them dry with just one touch ; he was unbeatable – so no student wanted to be the scapegoat .

Meanwhile , the truth was that he simply worked on their psychology – the poor boy would have taken time to reason that if he didn’t intimidate them early enough , they might team up to make life miserable for him following his looks and size- what a smart way to silent people .

However the way you want people to see you , start behaving that way now . You might be wondering why I ‘ve given example but I want you to know that building self – confidence is a job only you can do for yourself . You might borrow a few materials from others – appreciation , love , care , good parenting / background, education , etc which go a long way to help but you still need to allow all of these to work in your favour . Are we making excuses for people who didn’t have a good start in life ? Not really , everyday is a good time to start making a difference and creating the ‘ideal you’.

Dealing / relating with someone who has severe confidence issues is a difficult encounter and thousands of relationship problems stem from low self esteem. When a wife feels every outing the
husband does is unconnected with female folks and a husband suspects every missed call in his wife’s phone — wanting to know who and why he called . They constantly think their spouses are on the lookout for a better catch . Is this really necessary?

There is no particular universal reason for low self esteem; it is a natural emotional state flowing basically from the knowledge you have of yourself – rejection, childhood experience , shortcomings , looks , weaknesses , flaws , inadequacies , limitations, etc .

Interesting to note is the fact that other people may not even notice you have these challenges until you project them through your unconscious expressions or presentation . Handling situations in certain ways or reacting to things generally give others a clue to who you really are .

Trish had been enjoying her young marriage as a ‘ trophy wife ’ – the type of a woman acquired as part of properties to increase a man’s worth. Some years ago, it was common for a woman to fantasize and wish for a life close to that of ‘ Pretty Woman ’ – a favourite old film where a Richard Gere type hero solved your problems with a flash of his buoyant bank account .

Trish missed out of this affluent experience growing up with her single mom who could only afford the very necessary things she needed to survive . Now that her beauty worked her straight to the arms of a financial investment consultant , she ‘d to play catch up with her peers who looked down on her misfortune. The result of course was a bulky lazy bear compared to a slim chick her husband captured when she came with others to compete for the best act in a TV commercial for his bank . She had totally forgotten about modelling which she explored to support her low income earner mom .

Trish’s request to join Mark , her husband for his official celebrations constantly met with excuses and explanations . When she finally forced her way to their end of the year party and saw her husband was the only married man without his wife beside him , she knew something was definitely wrong with her marriage – Mark sure wanted someone more than a mother of two and a house peg that only shop online , ate and slept all day. Why won’t she be fat? Trish struggled with this feeling for long and ended up depressed. A clever thing to do would have been, get to the gym and shake it off , cut food intake or substitute dangerous ones for healthier options .

Different things make people suffer lack of self confidence . A sound check on your entire life to see the things that cause you pain and shame would be a step in the right direction . Although there might be things you cannot totally change except you want to do a quick fix ‘tummy tug’ and plastic surgery that would land you in early grave . For such things, develop a positive attitude to replace every negative thought troubling your mind .

Once you have identified how to sort yourself , work on those areas constantly until they become no issue to you at all . Always remember to say to yourself ‘ life is not a total package ’ for anyone ; we all have weaknesses and challenges but wise people project their strength not weaknesses .

Allowing your lack of self confidence to shatter your marriage /relationship would be a big mistake . You don’ t need to nag , control, jealous , suspect or be irritable , because you think your spouse is interacting/ mingling with people of higher class . Concentrate and develop yourself ; do it just for you and enjoy it .

It Never Happens the Way We Think It Will Happen

imagesI am walking my dog when it happens. The woman does not see me. The woman does not see my dog. The woman points her car my way and guns it, and when I see she doesn’t see me—doesn’t see my bright blue shirt nor my arm waving ‘hello neighbor’ in the air nor my big yellow lab standing at the side of her driveway—I dive to my right and the bumper of her car clips my hip and I tumble down and over the newly-mowed grass of her lawn and the next thing I know I’m lying there, just lying there, pushing to get up and looking at my dog looking down at me with her tail wagging, wagging wagging wagging. The dog licks my hand. We are alive, the dog seems to say. We are okay.

For the last decade I’ve been walking my dogs in a downtown…
